Online Banking Guide

At Hancock Bank, the security of your personal and account information is our top priority. Security is ensured by the use of multiple protection measures that work together to create a safe and reliable environment. Let’s take a quick look at the security measures at each stop along the way.

Security at Your Computer

Like any good security system, it starts with the user. Wherever you choose to do your Business Online Banking, make sure no one else uses or has access to the computer without your permission. Passwords should be carefully selected and never stored on your computer. Passwords should not be selected from obvious clues like the names of your children or pets. Changing your password every 60 days is great for additional protection.

Secure Access Card

A Secure Access Card is an optional layer of added security for Business Online Banking users who wish to use basic Business Online Banking functionality. You may sign up for a Secure Access Card by calling 1-800-448-8812 and selecting the Online Banking option. One of our dedicated associates will walk you through the enrollment process and provide you with a temporary PIN to use until you receive your Secure Access Card in the mail.

Once you receive the Secure Access Card, each time you log in, you will be prompted to provide grid coordinates from the card. As the card bearer, only you have access to those grid values – adding an extra layer of security to your Online Banking experience. Remember, only one unique card is issued to each user.

If you need to add or remove users, please contact Customer Service and select the Online Banking option for assistance. Note: Although the Secure Access Card is optional for many Business Online Banking users, we do require its use for the following Business Online Banking features:

  • SubUser Administration
  • ACH Direct Deposit
  • ACH Tax Payments

Security at Hancock Bank

At Hancock Bank, we employ the latest security tools to protect your data on all of our computers, including those used for Business Online Banking. Once your information reaches us via the Internet, it passes through yet another layer of security called a firewall which acts as a safeguard for Internet traffic.

Securing Data as it Travels Across “The Net"

Hancock Bank’s Business Online Banking system is a secure way to handle your financial transactions. To start, your web browser is required to have 128-bit encryption capability. This feature will prevent anyone from “eavesdropping” on your data as it travels between you and Hancock Bank.

When you log in to Business Online Banking, our computers check that your web browser software can communicate using a 128-bit encryption key. Behind the scenes, and in a matter of milliseconds, your computer and ours randomly pick a number that will serve as the “key” during your brief time online.

As a user, you don’t have to do a thing, except make sure you have a version of a web browser that can participate in this process. This type of security is called SSL, which stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It is based on the fact that the pool of possible numbers that can be selected for use during a 128-bit session is very large. So large in fact, that it is practically impossible to guess the number (key) used when scrambling and unscrambling data as it passes between you and Hancock Bank.

System Requirements

Hancock Bank’s Business Online Banking can be accessed from any computer with Internet access and a secure web browser, such as recent versions of Microsoft® Internet Explorer or Safari™. If your computer operates with Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or higher; you probably have all the software that is required.

VeriSign® Secure Site Pro

VeriSign® is the trusted provider of Internet infrastructure services, protecting more than one million web servers with digital Certificates.

Extended Validation (EV) SSL, compatible with most recent browser versions, gives web site visitors an easy and reliable way to establish trust online. For example, SSL Certificates with EV will trigger secured web browsers to display a green address bar. This green address bar shows site visitors the transaction is safe and encrypted. When your site is protected by Secure Site Pro with EV SSL Certificates, you know your transactions are secure and the site can be trusted.
